The Definitive Dessert Dilemma

By Denise Pare-Watson

I have a Dessert Dilemma. A question that is often presented to me as a pastry chef is:

“If you could choose only one dessert, what would it be?”

Have you given much thought to this? Depending on the situation, circumstances, and the environment at the time, I have a list of answers ready (actually, I have a few favourites!). My decision would have to be based on what I enjoy making as much as I enjoy eating (well, actually, I have a few of those favourites, too!)

From the Cookbook Series: Gluten and Gluten-Free Quadruple Chocolate Brownies

In the Urbnspice kitchen, much testing, tasting and writing have been accomplished regarding my Chocolate Desserts Cookbook Series. During the testing process, I invite friends and friends of friends that wish to be a part of the tasting panel, and we all have a great time pondering all things chocolate. Their feedback is important to me in the overall process of gathering the best of the best for my books.

When I start the recipe-writing process, I routinely start with CHEF TALK to introduce and discuss each recipe. The feedback that I received for one particular chocolate tasting item was conclusive. If I wrote all of the comments that I received for The Quadruple Chocolate Brownie, I would not actually have room for the recipe on my page – it really is that good!  The photo itself looks so luscious and rich and we could literally eat it off the page!

So, my definitive answer, my dear readers, is this:

“If I could choose only one dessert,

it would be a 3 x 3 inch square of Quadruple Chocolate Brownie,

slightly cooler than room temperature, but not cold.

I would accompany it with a cold glass of milk.

I would eat it slowly and savour its richness, its dense fudgy texture

and the unmistakable flavour that comes with using four very good quality chocolates.”

If you were asked the same question, “If you could choose only one dessert, what would it be?” what would your answer be?  Let me know – I want to hear your answers.

To all you chocoholics and dessert lovers out there, happy baking!

I think I gained 5 lbs just looking at that yummy picture. In answer to your question- anything and everything chocolate- esp. if made by my very talented chef sister…(: I also love apple crisp and cheescake.
